Bangladesh Mathematical Society in a statement on Sunday protested against the recommendation to drop the subject of mathematical reasoning and mental aptitude from the syllabus of Bangladesh Civil Service written examination.

In a letter to the chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, the society said that the Public Administration Reforms Commission鈥檚 recommendation to exclude mathematical reasoning and mental aptitude from the syllabus appeared to be contrary to the structure of modern society based on science.

The BMS also said that exclusion of mathematical reasoning and mental aptitude by BPSC at present meant denying the importance of mathematics to all students in BCS examination and diverting the next generation to mathematics.

Therefore, in order to build a science-based society, as well as create opportunities for science students to participate in the BCS examination, and to serve the country as efficient BCS officers, they demanded that mathematical reasoning and mental skills be retained in the syllabus without being removed.
