Former Bangladesh national cricket team captain Tamim Iqbal, who suffered a major heart attack and required emergency surgery on Monday, has been healing well but is still not out of danger.
The physicians urged him to stay at the KPJ Specialised Hospital for at least another 24 to 48 hours. According to the physicians, Tamim may need at least three months to return to the field if everything fell into place.Ìý
Abu Jafar, the Directorate General of Health Services of the government of Bangladesh, and Abdul Wadud, the director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, came to visit Tamim at the KPJ Hospital on Tuesday.Ìý
Tamim, who has been walking and has been transferred to a cabin from the CCU, has been recovering well.Ìý
Jafar and Wadud then briefed the media on Tamim’s latest update.Ìý
‘There’s something between the doctors and the patient, which should not be revealed,’ said Jafar.Ìý
‘But 48-72 hours [from the attack] is risky. And to be able to return to normal activities, he has to be given three months. Apart from that, he will do normal work and walk in his home. But he has to take complete rest.
‘Tamim will be under observation for the next three months. After considering his physical condition, if there’s any development or otherwise, a medical board will certainly approve him to play,’ Jafar concluded.Ìý
Wadud said that it’s understandable Tamim and his family might move him to some other hospital. But they were reminded of the risks.Ìý
‘There's a slight risk. That’s why we have told him that the period of 48-72 hours is critical. In this period, he has to talk less and rest more. If he wants to go another place after stabilising here a bit, he might,’ said Wadud.Ìý
Meanwhile, the parents of Shakib Al Hasan have visited Tamim at the hospital on Tuesday.
Earlier, on a Facebook post, Shakib urged everyone to pray for his ‘dear friend and brother’ Tamim.Ìý
Tamim, meanwhile, urged everyone to help each other.Ìý
On a Facebook post from his official page, Tamim said, ‘Some incidents remind us of the reality; let us know that life is so short. I request you help each other in dire straits. My heartiest gratitude and love for every one of you. Please keep me and my family in your prayers. I, Tamim Iqbal, am nothing without your love.’Ìý
