Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction with chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s address to the nation, citing the absence of a clear roadmap for election.
He expressed this dissatisfaction while talking to journalists after paying tribute at the grave of late president Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar marking the independence day.
‘We had expected that the chief adviser would present a roadmap in his yesterday’s address to the nation but we didn’t find any clear roadmap for election,’ he said
Terming the chief adviser’s statement ‘vague,’ Fakhrul said, ‘December to June is six months—this is not a roadmap for election.’
‘We are also disappointed that he did not mention president Ziaur Rahman as the proclaimer of independence. We do not want history to be distorted, as the Awami League has done before,’ he added.
He emphasised the necessity for a specific and prompt election schedule to address the ongoing crises.
Fakhrul clarified that BNP’s call for elections is not aimed at gaining power but is in the national interest, focusing on preserving the country’s independence and sovereignty through an elected parliament and government.
He urged the interim government to swiftly implement necessary reforms and announce the election date.
