Dhaka district’s civil surgeon, Mohammad Zillur Rahman, faced strong criticism from valiant freedom fighters on Wednesday after comparing the July 2024 uprising to the 1971 Liberation War.
The incident occurred during Bangladesh’s Independence Day celebrations in front of the Dhaka district commissioner’s office.
In a video circulating on social media, several freedom fighters were seen loudly protesting against Zillur, saying, ‘You are claiming the war was fought for the same reasons, but that is not true. The 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 uprising are incomparable.’
Meanwhile, Zillur Rahman was heard apologising for his remarks.
Zillur could not be contacted over phone for his comment in this regard.
However, Dhaka District Commissioner Tanvir Ahmed confirmed the incident to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·. He said that the aggrieved freedom fighters calmed down soon after he intervened and urged them to maintain peace.
