The Police detained three people from the National Memorial in Savar, on the outskirts of Bangladesh capital Dhaka, on Wednesday as they were seen carrying red flags and chanting the ‘Joy Bangla’ slogan during the Independence Day celebration.

The detained individuals are Selim Reza, 47, general secretary of the central committee of the Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command and secretary general of the Muktijuddho Projonmo League, Shahidul Islam,50, organising secretary of the platform, and Sohel Parvez,41, from South Gazirchat area in Ashulia.


Additional superintendent of police for Savar circle Shahinur Kabir said, ‘Some individuals attempted to create instability at the national memorial by chanting slogans. We have detained them and handed them over to Ashulia police for further inquiry.’

Selim Reza, one of the detainees, said, ‘since we are from the Muktijoddha Command Council, there is no question of preventing us from attending the Independence Day programmes. We have every right to be here.’
