The Bangladesh Mahila Parishad celebrated its 55th founding anniversary in a befitting manner with the theme ‘Building Capable Organizers, Strengthening the Organisation’ on Friday.

Parishad president Fauzia Moslem inaugurated the event by hoisting the national flag at 11am at the Sufia Kamal Bhaban auditorium, the organization’s central office in Dhaka.

Addressing the ceremony Fauzia said, ‘The organization was formed with the awakening of women’s consciousness during the Liberation War. As the spirit of the Liberation War developed, women’s strength became organised, the women’s movement progressed, and the contributions of women have been visible at every stage of Bangladesh’s development.’

She said, ‘A clear goal and various initiatives are needed to overcome crises. The struggle for human rights as well as women’s rights must be continued until they are firmly established in the society,.’

On this special occasion, Fauzia also paid tribute to the leadership of prominent figures such as Sufia Kamal, Hena Das, Monorama Basu, and Ayesha Khanam, whose contributions had been instrumental in the success of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.

“Today, we remember all the mothers and sisters at the grassroots level who, through their tireless efforts and sacrifices, have helped bring the organization to where it stands today,” she added.

BMP’s central executive secretary Umm-e-Salma Begum conducted the event, which was attended by its Dhaka Metropolitan leaders, executive members and officials.
