
At least six people, including two Secondary School Certificate examinees, were killed in road crashes in four districts on Saturday.
Of the victims, two each were killed in Pabna and Patuakhali and one each was killed in Meherpur and Magura.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Pabna reported that two youths, injured in a motorbike accident on the Eid-ul-Fitr day, died in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased are Nayan Hossain, 17, son of Kamal Hossain of Gaibandha district and a resident of Ishwardi and Hridoy Hossain, 17, son of Hadis Bepari of Sultanpur Purbapara village under Dashuria union of Ishwardi upazila.
On Saturday Nayan died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital at about 12:30am and Hridoy died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at around 2:00am.
According to the members of both of the families, the two friends went out on a motorcycle on the day of Eid on March 31.
At one stage, the motorcyclist lost control and the motorcycle hit a roadside tree in the Beruan-Sarabaria area on the Khidirpur-Devattar road in Atgharia upazila of Pabna.
Locals took the seriously injured duo to a Atgharia hospital from where they were transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Nayan was later sent to the DMCH after his condition deteriorated further.
Darga Bazar High School headmaster Md Rafiqul Islam said that both Nayan and Hridoy were candidates for the SSC and its equivalent examinations to be held from April 10.
Death of the two friends has cast a shadow of grief in the area.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Patuakhali reported that in two separate accidents two people were killed in the district on Saturday.
The deceased are Md Jahangir Alam, 50, commander of 60 Ansar members appointed by Norinco-Rural Power Company Limited (NRPCL) power plant at the Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali and Md Sultan Khan, 70, resident of Golkhali union under the Galachipa upazila.
Sadar police sub-inspector Mahbub Alam Khan said that at around 8:00am Jahangir took rations from Patuakhali and then was going to his ancestral home at Rajapur.
When he reached the Badarpur bus stand culvert on the Patuakhali-Barishal highway a bus ran over him, leaving him dead on the spot.Â
In a separate incident, Sultan died when he was trying to cross the Galachipa-Patuakhali road in front of the Horidebpur Polytechnic School and College and then a motorcycle ran over him.
Galachipa police officer-in-charge Md Asadur Rahman said that the incident took place at around 10:00am and Sultan died on the spot.Â
In Meherpur, a fish trader was killed as a vehicle called Algamon fell into a roadside ditch on the Meherpur-Kusthia highway at Chokhtolar Math under Gangni upazila.
The deceased is Jewel Rana, 28, son of Minhaz Uddin from village Chatiyan under the upazila.
Gangni police duty officer sub-inspector Md Golam Sarwar said that the incident took place at about 8:00am when Jewel was going to Gangni kitchen market to sell fish.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported that a van driver died on the spot when a bus on the Mohammadpur-Magura route collided head-on with his van near Binodpur Bazar intersection under Mohammadpur upazila in Magura at around 2:00pm.
The deceased is Mohammad Ali, 45, a resident of Mollapara village in Binodpur union under Mohammadpur upazila.
Mohammadpur police officer-in-charge Abdur Rahman said that they recovered the body and seized both the vehicles.
‘A case was filed in this regard,’ he added.
Meanwhile, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Patuakhali also reported that on Friday night 58-year old Asia Begum died when a microbus ran over her on the Patuakhali-Dhaka road in the Dumki area.
BSS also reported that Md Nurul Islam, 85, from Debpur Gogra village under Hajiganj upazila was killed after being hit by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Debpur Gogra area on the Chandpur-Cumilla regional road under Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur on Friday night.
