The members of erstwhile Bangladesh Rifles, who were dismissed and imprisoned after the 2009 BDR massacre, and their family members staged a demonstration in Jigatola area near Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters on Sunday demanding reinstatement of their jobs.

A five-member representative of the protesters submitted a memorundum to BGB director general, which was received by a BGB official at the gate.


Protesters said that they would continue their protests until meeting with the director general.

Huge number of police personnel, members of the Bangladesh Army and BGB were deployed in the area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Division deputy commissioner urged the protesters to hold a peaceful demonstration.

‘I urge them to leave the place as it is an important point,’ he added.

The demonstration began at about 10:00am and continued till filing this report at about 1:30pm.
