Parvez Hossain smashed the fastest fifty by any Bangladeshi across all formats as he reached the milestone in just 15 balls in Abahani Limited鈥檚 10-wicket thrashing of Shinepukur Cricket Club in the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the BKSP-3 on Sunday.
The left-handed opener, who remained unbeaten on 63 off 25 balls with four fours and six sixes, eclipsed the previous record held by Shuvagata Hom, who struck a 16-ball fifty for Shinepukur in the Dhaka Premier Division T20 in 2019 against Mohammedan Sporting Club.
After dismantling Shinepukur for 88 in 25.4 overs, where Mosaddek Hossain took 4-36, Abahani reached home in just 6.4 overs.
Parvez鈥檚 opening partner Jishan Alam was merely a spectator of his batting as he remained unbeaten on 17 off 17.
The win confirmed Abahani鈥檚 place in the Super League as they extended their lead at the top of the table with 16 points from nine matches.
In another match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mohammedan Sporting Club beat Prime Bank Cricket Club by five wickets in their first match since their captain Tamim Iqbal, suffered a heart attack before the Eid break.
After being sent in into bat first, despite Shamim Hossain鈥檚 blistering 89 off 61 balls that included 10 fours and four sixes, Prime Bank managed to put on just 174 in 32.2 overs on the board.
Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took 4-5 runs while Ebadot Hossain took 3-27.
Towhid Hridoy (57 off 55), who was captaining Mohammedan in the absence of Tamim, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (67* off 55) steered their team to 177-5 in 30 overs.
Later, Towhid dedicated the win to Tamim, who has been recovering after undergoing emergency surgery.
The win put Mohammedan at the second of the table with 14 points, with two matches remaining in the league phase.
Mehedi Hasan and Asaduzzaman Payel shone with the ball and then Naeem Islam and Khalid Hasan with the bat to help Gulshan Cricket Club register a narrow two-wicket win over Dhanmondi Sports Club at the BKSP-4 in the day鈥檚 other match.
Dhanmondi managed 258-9 in 50 overs, with Fazle Mahmud top scoring with 65. Mehedi and Asaduzzaman each took three wickets. In reply, Gulshan reached 259-8 with two balls to spare.
Naeem (68 off 67) put on two vital partnerships of 68 and 49 with Khalid (42) and Elias Sunny (23), respectively, before they became 135-5.
They needed six off the last over and lost Elias Sunny in the first ball off Kamrul Islam. But Nihaduzzaman hit a boundary in the fourth ball to give Gulshan a crucial win.
