
The Awami League’s Dhaka south city unit leaders and activists brought out a protest procession from the south gate of Baitul Mukarram that ended at party headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on Sunday morning.
Led by AL Dhaka south city unit former general secretary Shah Alam Murad, about 100 leaders and activists brought out the procession at about 7:00am.
Bangladesh Awami League verified Facebook page shared a video of the procession where its leaders and activists were seen chanting slogans such as ‘Shiekh Hasina will come back as a hero’, ‘Down with Jamaat-Shibir Rajakar’, and ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu’.
National Citizen Party senior joint coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud wrote on his verified Facebook account that police arrested six AL leaders and activists over the procession and .
Paltan police officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman Sheikh said that they arrested none in this regard.
The interim government led by Professor Muhamamd took over power on August 8, 2024 following the ouster of the Awami League regime on August 5 that year amid a student-led mass uprising.
Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024 and took shelter in India following the fall.
Many AL senior leaders either went into hiding or were arrested as most of the leaders were facing charges of murder during the July uprising.
