
Law enforcers arrested two Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists on charge of beating a college teacher in Chandrakola bazar are at Natore Sadar on Sunday.
The arrested activists are Abdul Wahab and Akkas Ali, both followers of Natore district BNP convener Rahim Newaz.
Natore Sadar police station officer-in-charge Mahabur Rahman said that after a case was filed with the police station Sunday evening and a joint-force team arrested Abdul Wahab and Akkas Ali, who were named in the case, in separate drives.
He said that the two was sent to jail by a Natore court on Monday while efforts were underway to arrest the other accused.
Earlier at around Sunday noon, Shajadur Rahman Selim, a senior lecturer at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib College at Natore Sadar and the daily Dainik Prantojan editor, suffered fractures in both the arms as a group of 8–10 BNP activists led by Abdul Wahab beat him over formation of the college managing committee.
The injured teacher alleged that BNP activists led by Abdul Wahab blocked his way in the Chandrakala bazar area while he was returning home from the college at about 12:30pm on Sunday.
The BNP activists then took him to a nearby tea stall to have a conversation. At one stage, the BNP activists snatched his mobile phone and started beating him with hockey sticks and other locally made weapons, he alleged.
