Eight days after celebration of the Eid-ul-Fitr, workers of three readymade garment factories under a group of company staged demonstration and held a rally, demanding payment of their dues, Eid bonuses, and other arrears in Gazipur on Monday.

Workers of TNZ factory gathered by their workplace in Mogarkhal area of Gazipur city in the afternoon.

Expressing solidarity, workers from other factories also joined the rally and staged demonstrations.

Workers’ leaders, including Md Arman Hossain, Shahin Alam, Md Shariful, and Shahidul Islam, addressed the gathering, alongside representatives from various labour organisations.

The workers said that they had been protesting for the past few weeks, demanding three months’ unpaid salaries ahead of Eid. Just before the festival, each worker was paid only Tk 9,100 while the remaining wages and Eid bonuses remained unpaid.

They threatened that they would continue the movements until all dues were paid in full.

Recalling the role of the workers during the anti-government movement that ousted the Awami League last year, the workers’ leaders said that they continued to face neglect and false promises regarding salary payments.

The leaders informed that a meeting between labour representatives and officials of the ministry of labour was scheduled to be in Dhaka on Tuesday to discuss the issue.
