
A programme titled Bangladeshi Week aimed at highlighting Bangladesh鈥檚 rich cultural heritage and its resilience in the face of environmental challenges is under way in Paris of France, said a press release. 聽
The week-long event comprising Bangladeshi architecture, documentaries, literature, debates and music began on Monday.
This multifaceted programme is designed to offer a comprehensive exploration of Bangladesh, going beyond the typical narrative of poverty, climate disasters, and pollution.
The week invites the audience to discover the country鈥檚 cultural vibrancy, innovative spirit, and forward-looking ambitions.
The programme will end on April 12.
On the opening day of the event, a documentary film titled Bamboo Stories written and directed by Shaheen Dill-Riaz was screened at the Cit茅 de l鈥檃rchitecture.
The film describes bamboo travelling through the rivers of Bangladesh.
A discussion was held on Bangladesh鈥檚 cultural, political and environmental landscape by Erik Orsenna and Elisabeth Ayrault at the event.
Celebrated Bangladeshi architect Kashef Mahboob Chowdhury presented a lecture on architecture in Bangladesh, emphasising the importance of climate-conscious design, materials, and human context.
A presentation on the Old Dhaka Learning Project by a group of architects including Marc Barani, Mathieu Lucas, Franck Boute, Luiz Lopez and Francis Rambert was also held on the opening day.
A video performance based on the daily life of the Old Dhaka鈥檚 porters was also screened at the event with the participation of students from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute.
Directed by Ramona Poenaru, the performance was produced by Compagnie Des ch芒teaux en l鈥檃ir.
The week will also feature a documentary film titled Bengal Delta: Journey to the Land of Misfortune by Laurent Weyl, an animation film titled Song of Whales by Afroza Hossain Sara and a text reading event from works of Akhteruzaman Elias, Shaheen Akter and Kaiser Haq by Lebanese-Canadian writer-actor Wajdi Mouawad and Jade Fortineau at the event.
Round table discussions on Bengali Literature and Society by featuring renowned writers Shaheen Akter, Kaiser Haq, Olivier Litvine, and Olivier Bougnot will be held on the closing day with a musical concert performed by Bangladeshi and French artists, including Rahul Anand and Manu Theron on April 12.
