A workshop on the role of media in flood preparedness was held in Dhaka on Monday.

Under the SIBE-NIMC project implemented by the National Institute of Mass-communication under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the workshop was presided over by the NIMC director general Md Kausar Ahmed, said a press release on Tuesday.


The keynote speaker was Professor Mohammad Abdur Rab, vice-chancellor of Manarat International University.

The discussion was attended by Professor Ahmed Kamruzzaman Majumder, dean, faculty of science, Stamford University Bangladesh; Sharif Jamil, convener, Waterkeepers Bangladesh; and Ghazi Anwar, vice-president, Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Representatives of print and electronic media, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre, District Relief and Rehabilitation officer, and deputy commissioner were present.

Journalists from various flood-prone districts of the country, including Kurigram, Gaibandha, Netrakona, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Habiganj Moulvibazar, Feni participated in this workshop.
