A Bangladesh national was beaten to death allegedly by the Indian Border Security Force along the zero line of the border adjacent to Sejamora village under Bijoynagar upazila in Brahmanbaria district Tuesday evening.

The deceased is Murad Hossain, 36, of the village.

The victim’s family members alleged that Murad went to visit his paddy field near the border after Maghrib prayers when BSF members picked him up and beat him mercilessly without any reason.

Murad’s wife Ratna Begum said that local people found him in a critical condition near the border.

He was later taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital at about 9:30pm on Tuesday when doctors declared him dead, she said.

‘We are yet to know who killed Murad and why he went there,’ said Lt Colonel Farah Mohammad Imtiaz, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh’s Battalion 25.

The incident occurred at the Sejamora zero point area along the border, he added.

According to rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra, at least 25 Bangladeshis were killed by the Indian BSF in 2024 while the number was 28 in 2023.
