A young man was killed and three others injured as a group of unidentified assailants opened fire on them in the Lemuchhari area under Rangunia upazila in Chattogram early Thursday.

The deceased is Awai Mong Marma, 33, of Sarafbhata Union under the upazila.

The injured victims, Hlasaithui Marma, 25, Sabachi Marma, 23, and Osai Mong Marma, 30, all residents of South Sarafbhata under the upazila, are now undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

South Rangunia Police Station officer-in-charge ATM Shifatul Mazdar said that the four victims had been guarding their lemon orchard when a group of miscreants launched a sudden attack and opened indiscriminate fire on them at about 5:00am.

All of them were bullet-hit, he said and added that locals rescued the victims and took them to Rangunia Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Awai Mong Marma dead on arrival.

He said that the remaining three victims were sent to CMCH for better treatment.

The motive behind the attack could not be known immediately, he said.

No case was lodged and none was arrested until Thursday evening, he said.
