Abahani Limited face arch-rivals Mohammedan Sporting Club in a crucial encounter of the ongoing Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium today.Â
Abahani, currently sitting at the top of the table with 18 points from 10 matches, are on a winning streak as they are yet to lose after the first match.Â
Mohammedan, on the other hand, have 16 points from the same number of matches and won their last four outings.Â
Both teams have already secured their position in the Super League, but the encounter is significant since the points will be carried through the next phase.
Once considered the biggest match of the season, the match has somewhat lost its interest in recent times, mostly due to various reasons.Â
Abahani captain Najmul Hossain Shanto confessed that the Abahani-Mohammedan clash is not the same as before, but he believes it is still significant for the players.
‘We hope that the excitement remains the same, but it’s true that it’s not like before. Spectators also don’t come nowadays like they used to. I don’t know why,’ he said.Â
‘But there’s excitement among the players if the match is between Abahani and Mohammedan. The match is competitive. I hope the fans will come to watch the match,’ Shanto added.Â
