The second death anniversary of freedom fighter and Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury was observed on Friday.

Different political parties and organisations took programmes to observe the day.


To mark the day, leaders and activists of Ganosamhati Andolan paid tribute by placing floral wreaths at his portrait at the party’s central office in Dhaka, according to a press release.

Speaking on the occassion, Ganosamhati Anodolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki said that Zafrullah fought for establishing people’s rights all his life.

Saki said that Zafrullah did not compromise with the country’s independence and sovereignty.

‘He was a revolutionary voice for achieving mass people’s rights,’ Saki said. 

Among other party leaders, Bacchu Bhuiyan and Dipok Roy were present.

Zafrullah, also the former chairman of Bhashani Onusari Parishad, died at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital in Dhaka on this day in 2023.

His body was buried on the Gonoshasthaya Kenra premises at Savar.

He left his wife, one daughter and a son to mourn his death.

Zafrullah established a field hospital in India during the War of Independence of 1971, for the treatment of  wounded freedom fighters.
