Two children died after drowning in a pond at Dharmapasha upazila in Sunamganj on Sunday noon.
The deceased are Safayet Ahmed, 6, son of Shahin Miah of Hijlagram of the Dharmapasha upazila, and his cousin Meem Akhtar, 6, daughter of Mamun Miah of Haripur village of the same upazila, police said.
Relatives of the victims鈥� said that Meem had been living in her maternal uncle Shahin鈥檚 house in Hijlagram with her grandmother for several months.
On Sunday morning, Safayet and Meem were playing in front of the house and at one stage, both of them fell into a pond near the house when their guardians were busy with their household work, they said.聽
The relatives said that the family members started to search for them after noticing their absence and rescued them from the pond at around noon and took them to the local upazila health complex, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.
Dharmapasha police officer-in-charge Mohammad Enamul Haque confirmed the death of the two children to 抖阴精品.
He said that they visited the spot after being informed by the locals and handed the victims鈥� bodies to their family as there was no complaint in this regard.
