The police on Sunday took the Rangamati district additional superintendent of police for traffic, Anirban Chowdhury, in custody immediately after the issuance of an arrest warrant against him by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Chattogram range deputy inspector general of police Md Ahsan Habib Palash said that the serving additional SP was taken to the office of the Rangamati district superintendent of police at about 2:30pm as they received a warrant of arrest from the ICT.

The Chattogram range DIG said that they were unaware of the alleged offence against Anirban.

‘He was detained in the afternoon and was shifted to Dhaka. ICT asked us to produce him before the tribunal,’ the DIG said.

The tribunal is now dealing with cases of crimes against humanity committed at places in the country during the July-August mass uprising that ousted the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.

Anirban joined the force through the 30th Bangladesh Civil Service examination as an assistant superintendent of police.
