The police have arrested Anisul Islam Chowdhury Tushar, 35, a leader of the Swechchhasebak League, in connection with a case filed over violence during anti-discrimination student protests in July in Moulvibazar.
Tushar was a candidate for the position of general secretary of the Moulvibazar District unit of the Swechchhasebak League.
He was arrested from his residence in the Barhat area of the town around 10:00pm on Sunday.
Tushar is the son of the late Akikul Islam, a former municipal commissioner of the Barhat area.
Confirming the arrest, officer-in-charge of Moulvibazar model police station, Gazi Md Mahbubur Rahman, said that Tushar was named in a case related to the student against discrimination movement filed at the Moulvibazar model police station.
