At least six Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders and activists were detained for reportedly beating police constable Shah Alam inside the courtroom of the Pabna District and Sessions Judge Court on Tuesday afternoon.
The police officer was beaten allegedly for barring the BNP activists from recording a video inside the courtroom in the presence of lawyers and people, said court officials.Â
The detained are Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal Ishwardi municipality unit joint convener Awal Kabir, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activist Sarwar Jahan Shishir, Swechchhasebak Dal Dashuria union activist Kalam Khan, Swechchhasebak Dal Ishwardi municipality ward 4 general secretary Rubel Hossain and Krishak Dal Salimpur union activist Jahurul Islam Dalim.
The BNP activists came to the courtroom for hearing of a sabotage case filed against them on November 15, 2023 during the Awami League regime, said court officials.
Court inspector Rashedul Islam said that six BNP activists were immediately detained.
‘Legal action is being taken against them,’ the inspector said.
Pabna District Bar Association president lawyer Masud Khandaker, also member secretary of the district BNP, said that such incident could not be accepted in the courtroom.
‘If anyone from the BNP has committed such an incident, legal action will be taken against them,’ he added.
