Local people in the Panchagarh municipal area on Wednesday beat up a coaching centre tutor and handed him over to police on allegation of sexually harassing a Class IX female student.
The tutor is Mostafizur Rahman, 32, from Pahardanga area under Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.
He teaches mathematics at Panchagarh Government Girls High School. He has been married for nine years and is father of two children.
According to witnesses, Mostafizur was detained by local people allegedly for abusing the victim sexually when he was providing her tuition at his coaching centre.
Before the police rescued him, mobs repeatedly beat him at Mashjid Para and the deputy commissioner鈥檚 office premises.
Abdullah Hil Zaman, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Sadar police station, said that legal action would be taken after investigation into the incident.
Mostafizur鈥檚 wife, Akter Banu said that she did not suspect her husband to be involved in the incident.
