Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday said that recommendations by the reform commissions must be constitutional before being implemented.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the dialogue between the National Consensus Commission and BNP at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises, Salahuddin questioned the issuance of the Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance without amending Article 95 of the existing constitution.

He also raised concerns over the proposed formation of the Supreme Court Secretariat by the interim government, stating that it has yet to receive constitutional approval.

‘BNP is not against reforms. But everything needs to be constitutional,’ he said.

The dialogue, chaired by NCC vice-chair Professor Ali Riaz, began at about 11:00am and was still ongoing at 1:30pm.
