
Academics, professionals and leaders of Dalit and Harijan people on Friday at a seminar in Dhaka called on the interim government to take steps to establish rights of Dalit and Harijan people of the country in the constitution and ruling system.
Several rights bodies of the communities organised the seminar at the National Press Club presided over by Saju Basfore.
Former Jahangirnagar University teacher professor Anu Muhammad said that the state must increase and ensure job facilities for Dalit and Harijan people in government sectors to establish a discrimination-free country.
He also urged the government to increase facilities for education for their children.
Lawyer Sara Hossain said, ‘We must keep the quota system in the government services for Dalit and Harijan students so that they could receive higher education.’
She also called on the interim government to take immediate steps to stop mob violence across the country.
Dhaka University professor Tanzimuddin Khan, social researcher Altaf Parvez, women leader Shima Datta,  leader of the Harijan organisation Suresh Basfore and others spoke at the seminar.
