Visiting governor of Yunnan province of China Wang Yubo on Sunday discussed with the government as to how they could open up new avenues of cooperation connecting the Chinese province and Bangladesh’ port city Chattogram in various sectors, including trade, medical, tourism and people-to-people connectivity.

Wang Yubo met with Bangladesh foreign adviser Md Touhid Hossain at the state guest house Padma where they renewed their pledges for further cooperation in various areas.

The Yunnan governor also called on commerce adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at his office to discuss issues related to bilateral relations, trade, investment and cooperation and visited the National Museum, according to officials concerned.

‘During the meeting, the bilateral relation between China and Bangladesh was reviewed and both sides renewed their pledges to open up new avenues of cooperation connecting Yunnan province and Chattogram in various sectors including trade, medical, tourism and people to people connectivity and exchanges,’ said a foreign ministry press release.

The two sides also expressed hope that the bilateral relations between the two nations would be strengthened further.

Wang Yubo, who arrived in Dhaka on a three-day visit on Saturday, is scheduled to call on chief adviser Muhammad Yunus today before his departure, said the officials.

They also followed up on the visit of Bangladesh interim government chief adviser Muhammad Yunus to China that took place in the last week of March.

China has already offered heath care services to Bangladeshis and designated four hospitals in Kunming under the Yunnan province as a time when India, a major destination of Bangladeshi patients seeking overseas medical services, has generally suspended visas for Bangladeshis following the fall of the authoritarian regime of Sheikh Hasina amid a student led mass uprising in August last year.
