Two children were electrocuted to death while playing hide-and-seek at Puthia upazila in Rajshahi on Sunday noon.
The deceased are Hamida Khatun, 8, daughter of Saidur Rahman, and Saifa Khatun, 7, daughter of Solaiman Ali of Mangalpara village under Shilmaria Union in the upazila. The deceased were cousins.
Union council member Kamal Hossain said that the two children were playing hide-and-seek in the yard at about noon.
鈥榃hile trying to hide behind a refrigerator at a neighbour house, they came in contact with electricity and they died on the spot,鈥� he said.
A while later, when family members started searching for them, they found the lifeless bodies lying beside the refrigerator.
Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Puthia Police Station, said that on information, he visited the scene and he allowed the family members to bury the deceased without any autopsy, following their pleas.
