Muggers on Sunday morning snatched Tk 10 lakh from an employee of a spare parts store in broad daylight in the Ghoramara area in Rajshahi city.

The incident took place at around 8:45am just 400 metres away from Boalia Model Police Station while victim Dilip Kumar Pramanik, the manager of Reliance Auto, was heading towards the store with the money from the owner’s house, according to the victim and the police.

Dilip Kumar said that he had kept Tk 12 lakh from the previous day’s sales at his employer’s house in the Kumarpara area of the city.

‘On Sunday morning, I set out for the store carrying the money in a rickshaw and as the rickshaw reached the Ghoramara area, the rickshaw puller suddenly turned into a narrow alley,’ Dilip said, adding that two young men on a motorcycle blocked the rickshaw while one of them threw an unknown substance into his eyes, causing him to lose vision temporarily and start screaming.

At one point during a scuffle, Tk 2.5 lakh fell onto the road from the bag, but the robbers managed to snatch the bag and fled the scene on their motorcycle, he added.

Mostak Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Boalia Model Police Station, said that they had collected CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the perpetrators.
