A leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s youth front Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal was shot and injured by unidentified people at Morol Galli at Hatirjheel in the capital Dhaka Saturday night.

Mohammad Arif, 35, a Juba Dal ward No 36 member, resides in a rented house in the Demra Staff Quarter area in the city.


He hails from the Patharchar area under Shibchar upazila in Madaripur district.

Hatirjheel police station sub-inspector Mohammad Rasel and Juba Dal ward No 36 vice-president Mohammad Ripon Mia brought Arif to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital emergency unit at about 12:30am on Sunday.

The Juba Dal member sustained bullet injuries on his forehead and inside his mouth and is now undergoing treatment at the DMCH in a critical condition, Ripon said.

He said that Arif was a wielding worker at a workshop.

‘We informed police about his sustaining bullet injuries,’ Ripon said.

Hatirjheel police station officer-in-charge Mohamamd Raju said that the incident took place at about 11:45pm on Saturday and the injured was taken to the DMCH by police and local BNP leaders within 45 minutes of the incident.

‘We are yet to identify the attackers and know the reason for the incident. We have been in talks with the victim family and a case would be filed once the health condition of the victim improved,’ the OC added.
