Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday left Dhaka for a four-day official visit to Qatar, where he would attend the Earthna Summit 2025 in Doha.

The summit, scheduled to be held in April 22-23, would focus on sustainability, innovation and traditional knowledge with the aim of fostering inclusive solutions to hot and arid environments.

Yunus would participate in a series of bilateral engagements on the sidelines of the summit.

The key areas of discussions would be long-term energy cooperation, particularly around liquefied natural gas imports, visa-related issues and the strengthening of broader economic ties between Bangladesh and Qatar, chief adviser’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam said during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital Dhaka.

Bangladesh currently has an LNG import agreement with Qatar.

He said that the chief adviser was expected to hold meetings with Qatar’s deputy prime minister and two other ministers.

On April 23, the chief adviser would attend a business conference in Doha where top Qatari investors would be present, Shafiqul said.

Meetings are also scheduled with representatives from the Qatar Charity and the Qatar Foundation to discuss collaborative development efforts.

According to the press secretary, a separate conference focusing on the Rohingya crisis would be held during the visit.

International stakeholders actively involved in the issue would join the event, which would serve as a preparatory dialogue ahead of a major United Nations-led conference on the Rohingya situation, to be held in New York this September.

On his Qatar visit, the chief adviser is accompanied by foreign affairs adviser Md Towhid Hossain, energy adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, national security adviser Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun and principal coordinator for SDG affairs Lamiya Morshed, among others.

Yunus is expected to return to Dhaka on April 25.

The Earthna Summit themed ‘Building Our Legacy: Sustainability, Innovation and Traditional Knowledge’ underscores Qatar’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices by blending modern innovation with its rich cultural heritage and unique ecosystems.

The summit would include expert-led panel discussions, roundtables, workshops and networking sessions across venues such as the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Bin Jelmood Museum.
