As part of observing the month of April as head and neck cancer awareness month, the National Institute of Ear, Nose and Throat in Tejgaon of Dhaka has undertaken various awareness programmes for a week.

These programmes were formally inaugurated on Monday with the aim of increasing public awareness with the theme ‘Know, Be Aware, Remedy’.


The director of the institute, Professor Md Hasan Zafar, was present as chief guest at the inauguration ceremony, said a press release.

The week-long events include: awareness rally, distribution of leaflets on head and neck cancer, discussion meetings with the participation of experts, health education sessions and promotional activities in print and electronic media.

On the occasion, a discussion meeting, presided over by Professor Md Hasan Zafar, was held at the auditorium of the institute. Professor Belayet Hossain Siddiqui, former head of department, head and neck surgery and ear, nose and throat department, Bangladesh Medical University, was present as the chief guest while the keynote speaker was Md Abdul Karim, assistant professor of head and neck surgery department.

The discussion was attended by the institute’s doctors, officials and employees, specialist doctors from different parts of the country, cancer patients who have recovered from cancer and media representatives.
