Five Chittagong University students were released on Thursday, nine days after they were abducted allegedly by the United People’s Democratic Front from Khagrachari on April 16.

Khagrachari district’s superintendent of police Md Arefin Jewel confirmed the matter to ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Thursday afternoon without disclosing further details.


‘We will inform further details regarding the matter later,’ the police official said.

Meanwhile, Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samity’s student wing Pahari Chhatra Parishad’s CU unit in a statement on Thursday said that the students were released in phases.

PCP expressed its gratitude to everyone involved in rescuing the five abducted students.

The abducted CU 2023-24 academic year students are — faculty of fine arts students Aldrin Tripura and Maitrimoy Chakma, dramatics department student Dibbi Chakma, international relations department student Rishan Chakma, also a PCP member of CU unit, and Zoology department student Longi Mro.

On April 16, they were kidnapped at gunpoint from Giriphul area at about 6:30am when they were travelling on a three-wheeler to Khagrachhari Sadar from Kukichhara area as they were returning to the campus after celebrating Boisabi.
