Theravada Buddhist monk organisation of Bangladesh, Parbatya Bhikshu Sangha Bangladesh, has recently extended a helping hand to the earthquake victims in Myanmar.

The Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha Bangladesh has provided cash assistance of Tk 14,00,000 for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Myanmar, said a press release on Saturday.


The entire amount was received from the personal donations of the members of the Parbatya Bhikshu Sangha Bangladesh, as well as the Upasak, and Upasika.

On April 21, a delegation of the Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha handed over the assistance to Myanmar鈥檚 ambassador of Bangladesh, U Kyaw Soe Moe.

At this time, a condolence letter was handed to the ambassador, expressing its condolences to the people affected by the earthquake.

Upa-Sangharaj Prajnananda Mahathera, president of the Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha Bangladesh Pragya Jyoti Mahathera, general secretary Lokmitra Thera, vice-president Sambhodhi Mahathera, joint secretary Prajnalok Mahathera, education secretary Sangharatna Mahathera, publicity and publication secretary Karuna Bangsha Thera, office secretary Buddhajyoti Thera and Devaratna Thera, among others, were present at the time.

Upa-Sangharaj Prajnananda Mahathera informed the Myanmar ambassador that there was a great lack of schools for studying the Tripitaka scriptures, suitable books and meditation centres for Buddhists in Bangladesh.

He also sought the ambassador鈥檚 cooperation in obtaining the Tripitaka printed in Myanmar.

Ambassador U Kyaw Soe Moe assured of all-round cooperation in the mentioned matter.
