Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on Sunday demanded removal of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board chair and its member for textbook for their alleged connection with the ousted Awami League regime.

In a joint statement, JCD president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir said that it was one of the NCTB’s main responsibilities to inform the next generation about the significance of the July-August mass uprising that forced Sheikh Hasina to flee to India bringing an end to a 15-year fascist AL regime.

‘NCTB officials are still nurturing fascism,’ the statement said, adding that if the fascists are not removed from the NCTB, it will not be possible to inform the next generation of the correct history.

According to the JCD, NCTB chair Robiul Kabir Chowdhury and its member (textbook) Riad Choudhury are the beneficiaries of Hasina’s fascist regime and close to former ministers Dipu Moni and Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel.

The JCD leaders said that the activities of fascist accomplices were still visible in the NCTB.

The leaders demanded that the interim government should remove these two officials from the NCTB immediately.

The NCTB is not upholding the July uprising although it is cherished by all the democracy-loving people at home and abroad, said the statement.

Their negligence in making an objective curriculum for teaching students at primary and secondary levels about the uprising is noticeable, the leaders said, adding that the NCTB is clearly unwilling to highlight the sacrifices of the brave martyrs in the curriculum.

Robiul was appointed as acting chair on August 19 and Riad on September 9, 2024 after the uprising.
