
Bangladesh finished third in the seventh edition of the Men’s AFH Cup 2025 after a 3-0 win over Kazakhstan in the place-decider match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Sunday.
Bangladesh took the lead in the third minute when Arshad Hossain scored a field goal. In the 37th minute, Ashraful Islam scored from a penalty corner and Rakibul Hasan added a field goal in the 47th minute.
Bangladesh confirmed their semi-final berth as Pool B champions after beating Sri Lanka 5-0, Thailand 2-1, Indonesia 3-2 and Kazakhstan 5-1.
However, the four straight-time – 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022 – champions suffered a 5-4 defeat to Oman in the semi-finals and failed to qualify for the forthcoming Asia Cup for the first time since their maiden appearance in the competition in 2008.
The finalists, Oman and Chinese Taipei, who crushed Kazakhstan 7-1 in the other semi-final, qualified for the Asia Cup as the two top teams of the 10-team tournament.
Oman emerged champions of the tournament for the first time after a 4-3 win over Chinese Taipei in the final on Sunday. Oman earlier played finals in 1997, 2008, 2012 and 2022.
