The International Crimes Tribunal on Monday granted the chief prosecutor additional time until May 25 to submit the investigation report in a crimes against humanity case involving the killing of six people on the outskirts of Ashulia during the student-led uprising in July鈥揂ugust 2024.

The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, allowed the extension after prosecutor Syed Mizanul Islam sought more time, citing the discovery of


new video footage capturing the killings and burning of the victims during the uprising.

Earlier, the prosecution had informed the tribunal that a draft investigation report on the Ashulia killings had been obtained.

In his petition seeking more time, prosecutor Mizanul Islam said the investigation agency, during the final stages of the probe, had obtained crucial video footage showing the killings.

Two individuals involved have already been identified and efforts are underway to identify other perpetrators.

He further stated that additional significant evidence has surfaced, necessitating more time for examination and preparation of the final report.

Earlier in the morning, several former senior law enforcement officials were produced before the tribunal in connection with the Ashulia killings.

They included former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former director general of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center retired major general Ziaul Ahsan, former deputy commissioner of DMP Mirpur Division Jasim Uddin Molla, dismissed additional superintendent of police of Dhaka district Abdullah Al Kafi, former additional superintendent of police of Savar circle Md Shahidul Islam, former officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station Abul Hasan, former OC of the Gulshan police station Md Majharul Islam, and former Detective Branch inspector Md Arafat Hossain.

Narsingdi Jubo League leader Rabiul Islam, sub-inspector Malek, constable Mukul, former assistant commissioner Rajen Chandra Saha and assistant sub-inspector Chanchal Chandra Saha appeared before the tribunal on the day in separate cases.

The tribunal fixed July 20 as the deadline for submitting probe reports in the three related cases.
