A group of young people reportedly stormed the Fikamoli Centre, where a licensed mini zoo is located in the capital’s Hatirpool area, and looted foreign birds while also demanding extortion money during an overnight raid between early Tuesday and the following morning.
The incident allegedly took place in the presence of police officers.
Dr Abdul Wadud, the owner of the Fikamoli Centre, claimed that a group of masked men, posing as members of the Detective Branch, entered his compound, where his residence is located, at around 1:00am on Tuesday.
The intruders remained in the compound until 9:00am on Tuesday.
‘Previously, some influential locals had demanded extortion money. Around Tk 20 lakh worth of foreign birds were looted from my zoo. I’m now seriously concerned about what might happen to me in the coming days,’ Wadud told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Md Moktaruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Kalabagan Police Station, stated that a patrol team was dispatched upon receiving information that approximately 200 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) had cordoned off the premises.
‘The BNP members informed us they wanted him arrested for allegedly collaborating with the Awami League. However, we did not detain him as he was not named in any case and is an elderly man,’ he told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
The OC added that he was unaware of the reported looting of birds worth Tk 20 lakh, as the victim had not filed any formal complaint with the police.
