Dhaka Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Md Golam Saklain Shithil was transferred from the Detective Branch to the DMP’s west zone public order management division after a footage showing  Saklain accompanying film actress Pori Moni to his official residence on August 1 had surfaced.

Pori Moni was arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion on August 4 in Dhaka and a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed against her with the Banani police station on August 5.

The DMP in text messages on Saturday said that ADC Saklain was relieved from all duties of the DB’s Gulshan division and was transferred to the public order management division from the west zone.

Media reports Friday night said that Saklain took Pori Moni to his residence for several hours on August 1.

Saklain was supervising a case filed by Shamsunnahar Smrity, known by her stage name Pori Moni, in mid-June against businessman Nasir U Mahmood and five others for attempted rape and physical assault in the Dhaka Boat Club.

Saklain, the husband of an upazila nirbahi officer, claimed that he had contact with Pori Moni due to professional reason.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Saturday said that they would take action against Saklain, if allegations of his professional misconduct regarding actress Pori Moni were found true.

DMP officials said that they had launched an inquiry.

The Criminal Investigation Department, meanwhile, started investigation of seven cases filed against arrested actress Pori Moni, film producer Nazrul Islam Raz, models Faria Mahabub Piasha and Marium Akter Mou and expelled Awami League leader Helena Jahangir, among others.

Asked about the Saklain-Pori Moni relation and its impact on the investigation of the cases, CID additional deputy inspector general Omar Faruk said that they would interrogate ‘anyone’ related to the cases and ‘none is above the law’.

‘We will go for a thorough investigation,’ he said.

Metropolitan magistrate Masudur Rahman on Saturday placed Pori Moni’s costume designer, Junaid Karim Jimmy, on a three-day remand in a case filed against him with the Banani police station under the Narcotics Control Act.

The DB would interrogate him.

Raz and their two associates were arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion on August 4 and a narcotics case was filed against them with the Banani police station by RAB.

The Bangladesh Film Artiste Association on Saturday suspended memberships of Pori Moni and actress Eka, who had been arrested after allegedly physically assaulting her domestic help.

The DB on August 2 arrested Piasha and Mou and sued them under the Narcotics Control Act after raiding their houses in Dhaka.

RAB arrested Helena Jahangir at her Gulshan apartment on July 29 after seizing foreign liquor, illegal walkie-talkie sets, casino equipment and a deer hide during a four-hour raid on her home.
