A Bangladeshi national was injured after the Indian Border Security Force members opened fire on him along the border of Baurpathar in Feni on Wednesday.
The injured, Md Shifon, 35, is a resident of Baurpathar village under Parshuram in the district.
Parshuram model police station officer-in-charge Md Shahdat Hossain Khan said that the detailed information could not be confirmed as to why he went to the border area at night.
Parshuram councillor Khorshed Alam said that several rounds of gunfire were heard around midnight.
‘Later, I came to know that Shipon was injured in the BSF firing,’ he said, adding that people of the area rescued him and admitted him to Porshuram Upazila Health Complex.
Shipon was shot in the leg, and the duty doctor at the health complex sent him to Feni General Hospital for better treatment, he said.
Border violence on the India-Bangladesh borders goes unabated despite repeated pledges made by the neighbour to reduce the border killings to zero.
On Saturday night, the BSF returned the body of Raju Mia, a 20-year-old Bangladeshi, who was shot dead in the Nagarbhita border under Baliadangi in Thakurgaon.
Raju was killed when the BSF opened fire early Friday as he had crossed into Indian Territory to bring cattle.
Rights organisation Ain O Salish Kendra in its quarterly report revealed that 13 Bangladeshis were killed in the first six months of this year, while the number was 10 in the same period in 2023.
At least 30 Bangladeshis were killed by the Indian BSF in 2023, the number was 23 in 2022 and 17 in 2021, according to the ASK.
