The police on Wednesday foiled the prescheduled rally of the Ganatantra Mancha in the capital protesting against killings and repressions of the law enforcers to control the ongoing student movements for reforming quotas in the government jobs.

A combine of six political parties, Ganatantra Mancha was scheduled to hold the rally at Purana Paltan crossing at 11:00am, but a huge number of police with prison van appeared in the spot at about 10:00am and forced them not to hold the rally.

The leaders and activist of the Mancha held a short rally in front of the Al Razi Complex at Bijaynagar where coordinator of the combine and chief coordinator of the Ganosamhati Andolan, Zonayed Saki, said that the Awami League government was leading atrocities to foil movements of the students.

Although the students are not responsible for the atrocities, the government is now trying to blame them, said Zonayed Saki, adding that to control the student movement, the law enforcers killed several hundred students and people, who had no political identity.

The government is trying to foil the movement of the students leading repressions, he alleged, mentioning that the law enforcers arrested huge number of opposition parties’ people to foil the movement.

Demanding the resignation of the government in charge of killing of students and people, Saki said that they would continue movements until the resignation of the AL government.

General secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party, Saiful Huq, called on the government to take immediate step to resolve the crisis politically. He also demanded the complete implementation of nine-point demands of the students.

‘Although the government is trying to stop movements of the student leading repressions, they will not be successful,’ mentioned Tania Rab, senior vice-president of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD.

Bhashani Onusari Parishad member secretary Abu Yusuf Selim, Rastra Sanskar Andolan central leader Didrul Bhuiyan, among others, spoke at the rally.

The Mancha will announce next programmes holding a press conference today.
