The authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka delayed an Emirates flight early Wednesday after receiving information that some high-ranking officials were on board and trying to leave Bangladesh.
Airport sources said they had halted the flight on the runway just before departure at around 1:40am on Wednesday.
The EK 585 flight was bound for Dubai from Dhaka.
According to airport sources, the flight was stopped based on directives from higher authorities and remained on the runway until the filing of this report at 3:00am on Wednesday.
Earlier, on Tuesday, airport authorities had prevented two ministers and two Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders from leaving the country.
