Dhaka Reporters Unity demanded immediate reopening of all closed media outlets and brought attackers on the journalists and media offices to book.

According to a statement issued on Thursday evening, DRU leaders demanded reopening of Dainik Amar Desh, Dainik Dinkal, Channel 1, Islamic TV, CSB and Diganta TV, which were closed without proper channel since long.


In the statement, DRU president Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo and general secretary Mohi Uddin strongly condemned and protested the attacks on journalists and vandalism of various media, including ATN News, ATN Bangla, DBC News, Somoy TV, Ekattor TV, My TV, Mohana TV, Daily News, Daily Bangla Bazar Patrika, Daily Amader Arthoniti, Daily Amader Notun Samoy and Daily Amader Somoy.

They also urged to bring the attackers and killers of all journalists during the recent student movement to book.

They demanded immediate trial of the cases filed over the killing of journalists, including DRU members Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi, punishment of those, who were involved in arson attacks and vandalism on media outlets and looting valuables.

DRU leaders sought cooperation from all to continue professional duties of journalists peacefully.

‘Media is not opponent of anyone. Media always try to publish and broadcast news of all sections,’ they said.
