President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Wednesday appointed 227 lawyers as deputy attorneys general and assistant attorneys general.

These appointments came as part of the interim government move to ensure legal representation in the Supreme Court.

Among the newly appointed state law officers, 66 have been designated as deputy attorneys general, while the remaining 161 will serve as assistant attorneys general.

This development follows the August 13 appointment of nine deputy attorneys general.

The move came after several law officers from the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina鈥檚 administration refrained from appearing in the Supreme Court following the government鈥檚 fall on August 5 amid widespread public discontent.

The recent appointments will replace more than 200 DAGs and AAGs, including the attorney general, who were appointed during the Awami League tenure.
