
An activist of Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, the youth front of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, was shot to death by unidentified assailants in the Gazipara Bazar area under Raujan upazila in Chattogram Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, Mohammad Ibrahim, 27, son of Md Alam of Gazipara under the upazila, is known as a supporter of BNP vice chairman Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury.
With the latest murder, at least 10 people, mostly political activists, were killed in the upazila since the fall of the Awami League regime on August 5, 2024.
Raujan police station officer-in-charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, quoting the victim鈥檚 family members, said that a group of 10 or 12 assailants arrived on the scene by three auto-rickshaws and opened fire targeting Ibrahim. He died on the spot.
He said that no case was filed and none was arrested until 10:00pm on Tuesday.
Earlier on April 20, Juba Dal activist Mohammad Manik Abdullah was shot dead in Garib Ullahpara village under the upazila.
On April 17, the police recovered the body of Md Zafar, a rickshaw puller by profession, from Mahamunir Dighi in the upazila.
On March 21, Md Rubel, 35, was beaten to death in the Hoarapara area in the upazila.
On March 15, Juba Dal activist Komor Uddin Jitu, 36, was beaten and hacked to death in the upazila.
A Juba League activist, Muhammad Hasan, 35, was beaten to death in the upazila on February 19.
On January 24, trader Md Jahangir Alam, 50, was shot to death in the Noapara area in the upazila.
On November 11, 2024, the police recovered the blood-stained body of Olama League activist Abu Taher, 48, from the Kalachand Bridge area under Raujan upazila.
On September 1, 2024, the police recovered the blood-stained body of Md Yusuf Mia, 65, from the house of former lawmaker ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury in the upazila.
On August 28, Sramik League leader Abdul Mannan, 27, was beaten to death in Raujan upazila town.
