A group of unidentified miscreants hacked a teenage girl to death and severely injured her mother after breaking into their house at Shekherchar-Baburhat market under the sadar upazila in Narsingdi on Monday night.
The deceased is Sumana Akter Tithi, 13, a Class IV student of a local madrassah, and her injured mother, Asma Begum, 40.聽
According to the police, Mofazzal Hossain, a tea shop owner, returned home from his shop at around 11:00pm and discovered his daughter and wife lying in a pool of blood, while his four-year-old son with a disability remained unharmed in the bathroom.
A doctor at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital declared Tithi dead while her mother was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
Mofazzal said that the ground floor of the small house was rented out as a warehouse for a cloth shop while he lived with his wife and children on the second floor.聽
Narsingdi Sadar police station officer-in-charge Emdad Hossain said that it could not be immediately known who or what caused the casualties.
