
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s detective branch released National Film Award winning actress Meher Afroz Shaon and small screen actress Sohana Saba Friday afternoon after questioning over their alleged connection to a ‘conspiracy meeting’ held in Kolkata in West Bengal of India.
They were kept in the DB custody for about 15-20 hours for interrogation.
DMP spokesperson Muhamamd Talebur Rahman said that both Shaon and Saba were released from the DB custody on Mintoo Road in the capital Dhaka at about 4:00pm on Friday to their respective families’ custody.
‘Both of them were taken to the DB custody to scrutinise their involvement in a meeting held in Kolkata. Police came to know about the matter through a media report,’ Talebur told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.
Shaon was taken to the DB custody at about 8:15pm on Thursday from Dhanmondi area in the capital.
Saba was taken to the DB custody at about 1:00am on Friday.
Senior DMP DB officials could not be reached for comments.
Neither Shaon nor Saba did respond to phone calls.
The ancestral home of Shaon, widow of late writer Humayun Ahmed, was set on fire by a group of people Thursday evening.
Shaon’s father is engineer Mohammad Ali, and her mother is Tahura Ali, a former lawmaker for reserved seats for women for two terms with Awami League nomination.
