
Protests against Israel continued for the second consecutive day on Tuesday in the capital and elsewhere in the country demanding an end to Israel’s bombardment and mass killing in Gaza.
The protesters including teachers, political parties, their student wings and other organisations held rallies, brought out processions and formed human chains protesting against the Israeli military’s offensive in the Gaza strip.
No classes were held at Jahangirnagar University on Tuesday in solidarity with the people in Palestine.
On Monday, tens of thousands of students, professionals, and general people across Bangladesh held demonstrations as part of a global strike in solidarity with the people of Gaza. No classes were held in most of the educational institutions across the country.
After the closure for one day, classes were resumed on Tuesday in different universities including Dhaka University and Jagannath University.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Dhaka University reported that a group of teachers on Tuesday formed a human chain on the campus demanding an immediate end to the ongoing genocide in Gaza and Rafah.
Bangladesh National Party’s student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal held a protest rally in front of the Anti-Violence Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus as part of its pre-scheduled programme at educational institutions across the country.
Speaking at the rally, BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed alleged that the failure of the government and law enforcement agencies was noticeable in the incidents of vandalism and looting in different business entities on Monday.
A group of DU students, under the banner of ‘Azad Palestine’, started a procession from the campus at around 4.30pm towards the foreign affairs ministry to submit their six-point demands including condemnation from the government on the Gaza issue.
At about 5:00pm, the police stopped them at the Press Club intersection.
Students of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology also held a rally on their campus.
Leaders of the Left Democratic Alliance, a combine of six left political parties, held a protest rally in front of the National Press Club protesting against Israel’s offensive in Gaza.
The rally was followed by a protest procession.
The Dhaka City unit of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh also held a rally at the same place. Dhaka city SPB coordinator Nikhil Das and the party general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz addressed the tally.
A group of protesters under the banner of Islami Nobojagoron staged a demonstration against Israel in front of the Baitul Mukarram mosque.
A press release issued by Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, said that they held a rally in the capital protesting against Israel’s offensive in Gaza. Â
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jahangirnagar reported that all academic activities in the university remained suspended on Tuesday in solidarity with the innocent people of Palestine.
Administrative activities, however, remained operational on the day.
Teachers, officials and employees of Jahangirnagar University, National University in Gazipur and Noakhali Science and Technology University held protest rallies on their campuses.
Our correspondents in Chattogram, Pabna, Sylhet, Noakhali, Jashore, Khagrachari and Feni reported that the JCD held protest rallies in the districts.
¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in Jashore reported that the Journalists’ Union of Jashore formed a human chain in solidarity with Gaza.
The Bangladesh Legislative Service Association in a statement on Tuesday condemned Israeli attacks on Gaza.
