The ruling Awami League on Tuesday said that the government does not care about the United States sanctions and its visa policy.
‘I have nothing to say about the arrival of Donald Lu [US assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs]. A country’s assistant foreign minister has come, why is there so much concern about it?’ AL general secretary Obaidul Quader said at a press conference at his road transport and bridges ministry office in Dhaka.
‘I don’t know whether the Bangladesh Nationalist Party cares or not. They don’t care many things openly and cares about them secretly,’ he said.
Regarding the boycott of Indian products, the minister asked whether it is at all possible for the BNP people to boycott Indian products.Â
‘What do we do without Indian spices? Sari and other clothes, and various daily commodities are being imported from India. The BNP is trying to make it an issue as it has no issues currently,’ he said.
The BNP has boycotted the election and now they are talking about movement, he said, adding that now their like-minded parties are saying that their movement would start after the heatwave.
‘How long after the Eid al-Azha will your movement begin?’ he asked the main opposition BNP. ‘Lately, they held two rallies in Dhaka—both failed. Their activists are frustrated. So their workers are not joining the movement now,’ he said.
