Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority traffic management department joint director Muhammad Ismail Hossain filed the case with the South Keraniganj police station on April 11 night against five staff members of MV Farhan-6 and Tasrif-4 for their alleged involvement in causing the deaths due to negligence, fast and reckless driving and using old rope.
The accused in the case are 1st class master of MV Farhan-6 Abdur Rouf Talukder, 54, its second class master Md Selim Hawlader, 54, and its manager Md Faruk Khan, 70.
Two other accused are 1st class master of MV Tasrif-4 Md Mizanur Rahman, 43, and second class master Md Moniruzzaman, 27.
The accident took place when MV Farhan-6 tried to enter between two anchored launches MV Tasrif-4 and MV Pubali-1 at pontoon 11 at about 3:00pm on April 11, on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims.

Hours after the incident, the BIWTA cancelled route permits of MV Farhan-6 and MV Tasrif-4 launches and formed a three-member probe committee. The committee was asked to submit report in five working days, said a shipping ministry release.
