The classes in the government primary schools, government and non-government secondary level schools and colleges across Bangladesh are going to resume today after a seven-day closure due to the ongoing heatwave.

The educational institutions, however, have been instructed to shorten the duration of each class and suspend all outdoor activities.聽


National University will also resume classes in the colleges under it from today.

All pre-primary level classes, however, will remain closed until further notice.

The primary and mass education ministry on April 20 directed closure of all government primary schools, Shishu Kalyan Trust schools and Bureau of Non-Formal Education learning centres for seven days from April 21 to April 27 due to the heatwave.

A press release issued by the ministry on Saturday read that classes in the primary schools would resume on April 28 but all pre-primary level activities would remain closed until further notice.

It also read that the schools with one shift would conduct classes between 8:00am and 11:30am.

The schools with two shifts will have classes between 8:00am and 9:30am for the first shift and between 9:45am and 11:30am for the second shift.

Assembly at all schools will remain closed until temperature becomes bearable, according to the release.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education under the education ministry also issued an office order on April 20 directing parties concerned to keep all government and non-government secondary level educational institutions under it closed till April 25.

On April 25, another release of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the education ministry read that classes in schools, colleges, madrassahs and technical educational institutions would resume from April 28.

Until further notice, classes would be held on Saturdays to cover the learning gap caused by the closure of classes, the release also read.

Assemblies would be suspended and academic activities outside the classrooms would be limited until the temperature becomes tolerable, it added.

The primary and mass education ministry, however, did not give any directive about taking classes on Saturdays.

National University on April 20 also issued a press release saying that all classes in the colleges under it would remain closed until further notice.

Some of the universities including, Dhaka University, Islamic University in Kushtia, and Jagannath University, are conducting online classes from the past week.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department in its daily weather forecast bulletin issued on Saturday said that very severe heatwave is sweeping over the districts of Rajshahi, Chuadanga and Pabna and severe heat wave is sweeping through the districts of Tangail, Bogura, Bagerhat, Jashore and Kushtia.

Mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping the rest parts of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, the divisions of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barishal and the districts of Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban.

On Saturday, Bangladesh鈥檚 maximum temperature of 42.7C was recorded in Chuadanga.
